Lobster Tree

23.07.2017: CUMBRIA, I climbed a tree today. An absolute giant. The frayed ends of an old rope swing stapled to its deltoids. It must be at least 300-years-old and surely the biggest in the whole wood. (It isn’t the tree pictured by the way).

On the walk, I saw four butterflies, cabbage whites chasing themselves like curls of paper flying through the air.  The Hawthorn berries are beginning to show. It was muggy first thing with steam rising off the sparkling grass. The Fell ponies were in the lake again, pulling up undergrowth from the bottom.

At the Trig Point, the sunflower was on the ground and the glass pot had vanished. Probably blown away by the wind, I hoped.
